BARDIN BARN PROJECT - BOIS D'ARC TREE
Back in the 40's and 50's, on Arkansas Lane off Matlock Road, there was a large Bois d'Arc tree where some of the high school kids went to park and "TALK."
Bois d'Arc wood is very hard and commonly used for piers back when houses and barns were were built on a pier foundation. Well, under that tree on Arkansas Lane, a foundation for a lifetime began for many Arlington teens.
The Arlington Historical Society is in the process of taking the Bardin family barn down to construct a blacksmith shop at Knapp Heritage Park using the Bois d'Arc piers from the barn as well as most of the wood siding and the tin roof.
Wooden pens made from the salvaged Bois d'Arc piers are now available at the Fielder Museum. If you would like to be a part of the history of the Bardin Barn and the building of our Blacksmith Shop, come by the Historic Fielder House and pick out one as a special gift or in memory of a loved one.
